Priority US Trees Conservation Awards

The Morton Arboretum, ArbNet, United States Botanic Garden, NatureServe, and BGCI-US, are offering conservation funding support for US-based institutions to collect and propagate priority US tree species.

We invite collaborators to complete a proposal in the form linked below to be considered for funding to support their tree conservation collections. The awards will range from US$3,000 - $5,000.

Proposals will be accepted in two rounds, with deadlines on June 15, 2025 and August 15, 2025. Recipients will be notified within 4 to 6 weeks of each application due date.

Eligibility

  • US-based institution (non-profit organizations; local, regional or state governments; educational institutions). Individuals are not eligible. 
  • Project focuses on priority US tree taxa.
  • Collection permit must be submitted prior to application submission.
  • Project complies with CPC Best Plant Conservation Practices to Support Species Survival in the Wild.
  • Data from the wild populations will be shared with state botanists. 
  • Collections will be accessioned and uploaded to BGCI PlantSearch.
  • Project period of performance is 18 months from the time of award notification.
  • Awards are available for projects from US$3,000 - $5,000.

  • Justification
  • Budget
  • Project title

Reporting

If awarded, participants will be required to submit a final report one month after completion of the project, detailing project activities, challenges, next steps and budget. Photos and videos (where applicable) should be made available for sharing on partner websites and social media.
